Hear ye: the promotional interview video for the forthcoming Doubtist Books poetry book "Threatening cuts" by Alexander Velky (also the author of this blog post, me, hello) has now been published on YouTube and various other narrower video websites that you can visit on your phone.
You can watch the video right here, right now. You might want to put the captions/subtitles on; one of these Alexander Velkies inexplicably ended up with a dodgy (Irish?) accent, and the audio is pretty bad because either my microphone is substandard or I don't understand how to use it (let's face it, probably both). Nevertheless this is an important global event, and you should tell all your friends about it:
There is also a video for the poem "Threatening cuts" which involves the poet cutting his hair and reading the poem "Threatening cuts", which is a poem about the poet cutting his hair in order to sell his hair in order to fund the manufacture of a poetry book containing this poem, which is about him doing that. You probably won't know what to make of it, so I can assure you that it is both very clever and impressive. You might not be sure whether or not you like it, so allow me to assure you that you do, in fact, like it:
You can order your copy of "Threatening cuts" from the Doubtist Books online shop right here. At the time of writing two people have already done that. (Thank you!) This means that the book will now have to be made, and there's no going back. I expect to print 100 copies, and books will be signed and numbered in the order they're bought. Get your order in FAST; there will probably be a mad rush on them when the above video goes viral in Equatorial Guinea. I do not currently plan to send any copies out to newspapers or websites for review because they usually forward them straight on to second-hand bookshops online without even looking at them. But if you want a "review copy" please get in touch via doubtistbooks ( at ) gmail (dot) com. This is (of course) the best book I've yet written; and the last one was pretty good, and the first two not entirely without merit either, IMHO. Final edits have been made to the proof copy and the new book will be sent to the printers within the week. We're looking at a provisional publishing date of June 24th, 2024 (TBC). This will be eleven years to the day after "Mistaken for art or rubbish" was published, and thus my 41st birthday.
Time makes fools of us all.
A Velky, the last day of May, 2024.
